The Fight
We enter the central chamber and combat begins.
Although Aethswold hits the Pulsebound we can see it heals from the feeder roots.
Sebastien proves to be a hero by running to the far end of the room and turning on the water which suppresses the Pulsebound, limiting its ability to move and heal. Aethlwynn targets the feeder roots managing to injure two and kill one with her Caustic Blasts. Sebastien injures two feeder roots with his Haunting Hymn. Salus proves invaluable at keeping Aethswold and Guru fighting the Pulsebound.
Finally Guru kills the Pulsebound and we think we can relax, but there is a mighty cracking noise as the creature hiding within the roots and bones is released. The creature glares with a steady, malevolent blue light, we can only watch as the feeder roots come back to life.
Sebastien runs to the other handle risking being hit by the feeder roots. Aethwold wounds the creature with his scythe but it aborbs two of the feeder roots to heal. As Sebastien turns on the water again the creature retreats to the far side of the chamber. Aethlwynn surprises herself by critically hitting the creature with her Befuddle spell making the creature Clumsy, Stupefied , and Confused. Although it is now easier to hit it still fights fiercely and as Aethswold hits the killing blow we think we have lost Guru. However he is a touch Dwarf and stabilizes.
Once the creatures body has collapsed the whole chamber is eerily quiet. Salus needs all her healing powers to help Aethswold, Guru and Sebastien.
As we look round the room Aethlwynn sees the creature grew directly from the root network but that the roots not attempting to regrow it.
Salus looks at the bones entwined in the creature's covering and sees that they are all various animal bones of varying ages. None of the bones seem to be human, so the missing could still be alive and Harlan's body is not here.
As a group we feel that the supernatural resonance that previously filled the chamber seems to have gone.
We examine the creature and see that a knot in the chest has partly detached and appears to be a heart, but it is unlike any heart we have ever seen before. Sebastien tries to harvest from the creature and manages to take the heart material noticing it seems to still pulse faintly. Aethswold harvest 2 blackened roots and some root fibre.
Sebastien notices the regulators are damaged by largely intact. We leave the mechanisms in place.
